Leader

Sometimes i really confuse about the real characteristics of being a leader in the business world. Well, personally i think that a leader should be focusing on their work, assign tasks for those employees with capabilities, and set a deadline for them to collect their works. In the process, trust should be given to their subordinates as well. This is a "classical" leader. Nowadays, in this sophisticated life and rapid changing environment, especially business world, my perception about leader is no mercy, which means that if certain employees do not meet your expectation, they will be eliminated. Thats it. this is truly NO MERCY. In university, if you are trying to practice this "no mercy" thing, i am telling you that you should be prepared to accept the consequences, which is to be alone. If you are good with that, then you may proceed, and i wish you good luck in future; but if you don't think that you can cope with that loneliness, then i think you better stop to think like that. Basically, i know that i am not a good leader, because i always try to do all the work myself rather than REALLY trust on them, and i know that's my personal problem in my communication with others, and i do not feel safe without checking all the things myself. But anyway, i am trying really hard to improve and overcome my weakness in that because a good leader should not have any doubt in their teammates, and i know i wont be able to check their works because a leader got a lot of things to do other than checking. Freedom should be given to team members, but i prefer to give "guidance" in the process of giving freedom. I will let them do, let them fail, let them correct their mistakes, and that will improve them and prepare them for a better future. This is what i will do. I know i can do it. And i mean it.

3 Talks, 3 Experiences

Well. Today i went for 3 different talks from 11am until 4pm which were held in conjunction with Mind Festival of Malaysia. The first talk was "Love your brain and your life will be beautiful" by Mr. SK Tan. Honestly, this guy was awesome because initially i thought it would be a boring talk but it turned out that i was getting much more than i expected. He surprised me with his knowledge about brain, such as if we drink carbonated drink for a long period, our brain will actually shrink!!! When we had unhealthy diet, at the age of 70, our brain will shrink by 30%! Another fact was that if we continuously drink those RO water for 3 years, we will tend to get osteoporosis. Here some other facts where he really impressed me a lot:

1) 99.99% of food products that were made in USA are actually made from PLASTIC!!! Those food products are being modified, but the content of plastic is still inside the food itself, and he proved to us using a video showing french fries from McDonald which did not rotten even after 3 months. Other products including Big Mac, Fillet O fish, Mc Chicken were all rotten but not french fries, and i think you know why.

2) If we take our conscious mind as captain and sub-conscious mind as soldiers, then we better put those positive reinforcement into our conscious mind. For example, if we keep telling our conscious mind that we cant do something, then the captain (conscious mind) will send the order to soldiers (sub-conscious mind) telling them that we actually cannot do that thing, which will eventually causes failure. Because of this, there is a saying says that " If you think you can, you can."

3) You know that if we have too many electrical appliances between us, we will feel weary in a short period of time, but do you know the reason behind this? Well, NASA had created an equipment which can detect the magnetic field around us, or in other word, aura. We Asians usually use chopstick and plastic spoons when we have our meals, but for those foreigners, they use spoon and fork, as well as other metal utensils, and that is the how they feel lethargic. The metal spoon acts as a source to make their aura "disappear" because it has been discharged, just like an antenna always do. Besides that, handphone is also one of the sources that can discharge our aura, which will be recovered only after 30 minutes.

Basically these were the things that i managed to remember. There were other informations given which pertained to how we can fully utilize our brain, where more than 95% of it was not being utilized by everyone, but i forgot most of it. What i could recall was that having a healthy diet was very important to us. Lolz. The other two talks that i attended include photo reading, which was a way to read 25000 words in one minute by Suzanne Lee, and Mind-mapping by Mr. CK Liew. For the photo reading, there were 5 steps that we had to follow, which were focus on the purpose of your reading, preview, flip through the book, postview, and activate your mind to absorb information. We were actually not using our conscious mind to absorb knowledge from the book, but putting information and message into our sub-conscious mind in order to find out what we want via second step, which was preview. After all, i did not get much information from there because it was kind of abstract information for me. Finally was the mind-mapping talk. Basically it was just about the importance of making mind-map because it can help us to save a lot of time especially students like us, but personally i like the way the presenter presented as he shared his own experiences with us. For me, the best way to make us understand something is to think and talk from our perspective, but anyway, he did a great job. That was the experience i had today, and now, i feel like i am improving. Again. Lolz.

Its My Life

Everything that exists in this life changes continually: humans, wealth, my body, the climate, pleasures..... I could enumerate an infinite list for that. But in real life, people will change too, regardless of their current behavior and age. I know that everybody has their own way of doing things, and me either. Well, it is hard to say that i am always the right one (in fact i am not), and i have been trying very hard to accept people opinions by wearing their shoes to improve myself, but sometimes it is just like unending route. Or i should say, everything in this world has its trade-off. When i need to get something, i have to forgone something in return. Fair enough. I am not the perfect one, and i know i do not have the ability to reach that stage either. So i am just gonna walk according to my own path, think according to what i am thinking, and do whatever i think is right. In the process, of course it is essential to accept other peoples' opinion all the time ( but may not agree) as it is one of the requirements needed in my field of study. Everyday, the sun will comes out and the sun will go down when it is time for the moon and stars to do their job. I wonder which idiot invents the word "useless" as i don't think there is someone called "useless" in this world. Think about it. Even trash has its own value. From the perspective of cost, it has no cost at all. No cost means there is a value to be used from business point of view. So where is the "useless" point? Think from the other way round, find your own direction, and walk towards your goal. The life is yours. Just go for it.

BBQ Night

Yesterday had a great time with my friends at Jing Cong house for a wonderful BBQ night. ^^ Well, before that i was assigned to "bait" Jing Cong out of the house while his house mates can prepare everything by 8pm, so my job was like chat or do whatever i can to hold him until that time. Unfortunately, i never thought that Jing Cong was so brilliant that he already can guess what was happening when he prepared to come to my house. We chat quite a lot from 5 something until around 8pm, and everything was ready. When we reached there, they were starting the fire and somebody truly intelligent think of using fan to "light up" coals. (What a good idea!) Honestly, that was the first time for me to have such an event since i came to UTAR. So, it was kind of touching to have such a good memory. They bought a lot of chicken wings (90 pieces) and some kind of imported honey named Capilano (Sounds like that) which costs 30+, and as usual BBQ, everybody started to "play" with chicken. After we had our meal, it was time for some extreme activities. First activity-- throw eggs. Initially i was wondering why they want to take an egg in their hand, and after they use those eggs to smack on Jing Cong's body, i guessed i know what was happening. (LOL) Second activity -- "Delicious drink". This beverage is specially made by us using tomato sauce, chili sauce, sarsaparilla, watermelon juice, and the most important element--> water which used to preserve the chicken. (At last, of course the specially-made drink got poured on shirt but i think the smell was bad enough to suffocate someone, lolz) Lastly, Jing Cong was given a last alternative--> eat the chicken wing alive!!! ( I mean raw chicken wing of course =P) It was like watching Fear factor!!! Well, he had no choice but to eat a small piece of it, but that was enough to make him feel want to vomit (In fact, he did). So, that was it. After that we continued our BBQ and i ate 4 chicken wings, which caused me to have sore throat today, but after all, i really felt glad to have such a party with my friends and i hope that next time i can have another chance to join. ^^ (without considering my throat, lolz)

Jing Cong's extreme moment.......eat raw chicken~

Me and Lip Yan discussing how to make our chicken nicer~ XD

Everyone is trying their best to make a perfect meal~

i really didn't realize that Seng Ming is actually behind me......

Blue Ocean and Red Ocean

Today went for a special talk titled Innovative Marketing Tools from Blue Ocean Strategy. It was a talk given by Mr Jonathan Fong, an experienced sir who trained a lot of Managing Directors before. Well, is was quite an interesting talk because he basically focus on blue ocean as well as red ocean and of course taught us how to look for blue ocean. There is 1 very interesting question that he asked, which is sales minus cost equals to profit, so basically we can increase profit by increase sales or reduce cost, but how about reduce sales and cost reduced even further? What will happen to the profit? The answer is profit will increase. And this statement can only be used when it is a monopolized industry, interesting huh? Other examples such as always think out of the conventional thinking also very useful as this is a rapidly changing industry, which we have to use it in the future. In this world, there are only 2-3% people really think, 5% of people think that they think, and 92% of people do not think. Therefore, in every company, 2-3% are top managers, 5% are executives, and 92% are workers. In every company also, there are 3 types of people exist, which include people that make things happen, people that watch things happen, and people who wondering what is happening. What a good point! (Lolz) After all, i gained a lot from this talk and hope that i can acquire the skill and find my own blue ocean someday.

7-7

Today is quite a special day as there are 2 happenings occur, which are our first presentation in this sem, and our lovely team building teacher, Miss Chloe Ling, born on this day 20+ years ago. (Lolz) Well, its a very tiring day because the day before this we have to do discussion and practice for our presentation. I have to memorize an one-and-a-half-page script and seriously, its an extreme one because i can't even remember when is the last time i have to remember this kind of script. Well, I mean 5 to 6 minutes script of course. When it comes to an end of our presentation, i feel like some kind of relieve and honestly, the feeling is special. After the presentation we head off to have our lunch, and luckily it is raining at that time, otherwise i'm gonna hot like chili. After lunch its time for us to take some photos but feel a bit regret not to have Havard, our group member to join us as he has another class to attend. When attending our team building class, we already know that its our Chloe's birthday and intend to sing a song for her but never thought that she will say it out herself. Quite disappointing for that one but at least we manage to take photo with her on her special day. Wish her happy always and hope she wont say again that she is 176cm (because she is definitely shorter than that!!!). Well, overall although we are tired but i think it is a very good memory for me. Before have to prepare to go for exam war. XD

A perfect love shape by me~ <3

Brand New Start

I believe that there is no perfect person in this world, regardless male or female. Everyone has their own thinking, and the difference in their thinking make them special, or in other sense, not all the people around them agree with what they are doing. Today, i will take it as a brand new day for myself because someone told me something that can be considered hurt but acceptable. For me, maybe I've been given a wrong direction, a direction where i consistently believe that in business world, there is no right or wrong but only win or lose. I am going to involve myself in this reality world after 2 years, and was told that no mercy should be given as you are either kill or to be killed. Is it really so? I don't have such experience yet but so far, nobody dares to tell me there is a totally "transparent" company because there are always political issues in it. Basically i don't really care about others, about what they see or feel about me, because we have difference in thinking. My dream, is to use no-mercy method on those unethical businessmen and companies, and help those who are in needs. And the first step i have to take is to study well, learn all the tactics used in business world to defend myself and to attack my enemy at the same time. To help more people, i must succeed in my life, show no mercy to those who are trying to stop me, and get closer and closer to my dream. I will start after i publish this post. And i mean it.

Confidence and flexibility

Never think that my first post is going to have sad feelings in it. Well, yesterday was the match between Argentina and Germany, and as usual i was at the stall chatting with my friends while waiting for the match to begin. Well, it's not that i don't like those who supported Germany, but sometimes i will have the thought that there was a bottom line where they shouldn't cross over, because whatever bad things they said mean something to me as a supporter of Argentina. After the game started for 3 minutes, Germany managed to get 1 goal for their country, and of course i felt sad but not hopeless as there were at least 87 minutes for Argentina players to get themselves into the situation. And i assumed they had to use the 45 minutes in the first half to do so. In the second half, i was hoping that Maradona will change his strategy because his players need something different from him to win against a team like Germany. Yet, i saw nothing but the lack of confidence and flexibility from Argentina players. I thought that it was obvious to see the style Germany players using, which were playing around the ball using their own skill but cooperate with teammates at the same time. For Argentina players, they were lack of confidence with their own skills and i wondered why they keep passing the ball to Messi and not rush to the goal themselves because i totally believed that they can make the shot themselves. So thats it. The result was disappointing but at least there was no "acting" as i can see in Robben and Christiano Ronaldo. Anyway, life goes on. Just hope that those countries who lost in their match can improve well, and for Argentina, please stop putting pressure on Messi because if he was the center of all the strategy used, i don't think he can be himself. The real himself.
